Ma’ake Soakai - Tongan

Masters in Information Technology (IT) Management

"Heading back home to work for the Ministry of Finance & National Planning Tonga in IT Management, coordinating staff, projects and general operations of IT support for internal and government-wide operations in Financial Management Information Systems. Additionally looking into policy and strategical planning to ensure efficient use of ICT resources within the Finance ministry.

UQ's an awesome place to study, it has made things easy for me to focus on studies, the facilities are excellent and people are very friendly, especially my UQSPIA friends.

As a word of advice to current students, take and complete things quickly as they come, procrastinating leads to greater workload in inconvenient times, it's easier to take things earlier, piece by piece. Use a calendar and schedule everything, but don't over schedule, it defeats the purpose and makes you feel burnt out before you even start. Use YouTube videos to understand things you can't seem to get your head wrapped around, or look at how other people do it and how they tackle similar issues. Start revision notes from week 1, it helps along the way especially with mid-terms.

UQSPIA made me feel like I was at home with family and friends, it was nice to speak my mother tongue with my fellow Tongans, brings your mind back home and reminds you why you're in UQ. God Bless."
