Bachelor of Engineering, majoring in Mining Engineering

"I started my degree in June 2013 at the University of Queensland. It was the most challenging experience I have ever had. Particularly, when having to leave my family and study in Brisbane. Coming from an education system that is less comparable to the Australian system had caused a lot of issues in trying to settle in during my first year. To be honest, I first learned how to use a computer when I came to Australia. Engineering itself is not an easy degree to undertake and I never thought I would be able to complete my degree. Even at one point in time, my dream of achieving a degree was shattered. This occurred in 2014 when my dad passed on. However, his words advising of the importance of education encouraged me to never give-up but keep striving for

my future.

A huge thank you to those individuals who initiated the idea of forming UQSPIA. UQSPIA has given me a family away from home. I met a lot of new brothers and sisters from the pacific through UQSPIA and learned a lot both academically and socially. The best thing about being a member of UQSPIA is that I had the chance to participate in cultural shows and play sports.

With my Engineering degree, I have already secured a job with a mining company that operates in the Solomon Islands. So, I’m hoping to put into practice what I learned from UQ and build on from there as a start. However, I would love to further my studies if

given the opportunity in the near future. Finally, I would like to thank each and every one who contributed in one way or another

towards my staying and studies in Brisbane.

To finish off my testimony, I would like to share a short text that always encouraged me in times of doubt. Jeremiah 29:11, “’For I

know the plans I have for you,” declares the lord, “plans to give you hope and a future.’” Therefore, we know God has a plan already for each and every one of us. However, it requires patience, commitment and hard-work. Believe in yourself that you can do it. There is nothing impossible if you put God in whatever plan you have."
